Bepko Learning Center- Tutoring and Operations Student Coordinator (Undergraduate Position)

The mission of the Bepko Learning Center is to enhance the opportunities for undergraduate students to achieve educational goals and to assist in their development of academic skills through the guidance of more experienced, highly successful student peers. In doing so, we value our Center’s community by embracing all aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our goals of helping students succeed.

General Responsibilities
  • Maintain open communication with associate director concerning tutoring and BLC operations
  • Assist in the research of the best practices in one-on-one tutoring and student success strategies        
  • Communicate and update all progress of projects on Basecamp
  • Hold regular hours each week at the BLC Success Desk
  • Facilitate trainings over academic success strategies
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Attend all trainings, events, and meetings throughout the semester:
  • Student Coordinator Training: Tuesday, August 17, 2021 8:00AM - 5:00PM         
  • New and Returner Coach, Mentor, and Tutor Training: Wednesday, August 18 and Thursday, August 19, 2021 8:00AM-5:00PM           
  • Weekly training meetings: Fridays 12:00PM – 1:30PM
Candidates must maintain at the most recent semester and cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. 

Biology Resource Center
  • Assist in marketing initiatives and getting students to take advantage of BRC tutoring
  • Assist with the development and modification of trainings focusing on BRC operations and best practices in tutoring
  • Provide ongoing communication and support to tutors regarding tutoring and logistical information
  • Help arrange the tutoring schedule for courses with tutoring in the BRC 

Tutor Application Processing
  • Process any new tutor applications and work with associate director to see that candidates meet qualifications
  • Update progress and status of current and prospective tutors
  • Add prospective tutors to Canvas project site to complete the Best Practices Tutor Training
  • Update and maintain list of available tutors for each semester 

Tutor Training
  • Monitor progress of tutors completing training and make necessary updates to Canvas project sites
  • Organize and facilitate synchronous tutor trainings
  • Update training content and assist in developing new trainings using learning assistance and tutoring literature

Tutor Request Communication
  • Follow-up with new tutor requests
  • Provide follow-up emails and communication to ongoing tutoring requests
  • Close tutor requests that are satisfied, no longer in need of support, or unresponsive
  • Include and update notes of interactions on the Tutor Request project site

Website Maintenance
  • Add and modify website with correct information and ensure content is free of errors
  • Assist professional staff with updates and issues concerning the website
  • Adjust photos and images to correct resolution and size for website

Bepko Learning Center Training
  • Support front desk staff with customer service training and front desk protocols
  • Assist with the coordination of BLC student staff check-in and check-out for each day of training
  • Carry out logistics during synchronous training by assisting with workshops and providing support to professional staff and other duties as assigned

Logistics
  • Prepare paperwork and folders for BLC affiliated events relating to tutoring and mentoring
  • Assist with ordering supplies or materials needed for the BLC
  • Help with organizing event schedule and confirming times event with constituents
  • Prepare materials and activities for events to encourage student participation
  • Develop and organize satisfaction surveys for events
  • Monitor registration and attendances for events
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

Marketing and Communication
  • Provide direction, collect, and organize information from different individuals for marketing content              
  • Review all communications for correct information and grammatical errors        
  • Review communication that is being received by and sent to promote events or provide outreach
  • Develop PowerPoint presentation and similar visual aids to be used at events

Approximate Hours Per Week
20 hours (during 2021-2022 academic year), summer 2021 hours available (up to 20 per week)
