Part-time Water Quality Technician

FOR: Students majoring and/or interested in Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resources, Entomology, Environmental Science, Public Health or other related fields.
 
DUTIES:
 
Inspects public and semi-public swimming pools to ensure compliance with local/state/federal standards for water chemistry/quality and safety, including inspecting pool sites, checking safety devices, reviewing operating records and water sampling results, using test kit to evaluate chemical concentrations in the water, and initiating action to resolve problems.
 
Conducts recreational surface water sampling and well sampling.
 
Participates in the Hoosier Riverwatch Program.
 
Receives and investigates complaints regarding water quality.
 
Serves as resource to the public regarding various environmental health issues, responding to inquiries/concerns by telephone and
e-mail, preparing/providing printed materials, and occasionally attending meetings and/or making presentations to community groups, such as pool operators, homeowners associations, and/or property owners.
 
Some duties may involve standing/walking for long periods of time, walking on uneven terrain and wet surfaces, lifting and/or carrying objects less than 50 pounds, crouching, kneeling, bending and reaching.
 
Basic swimming skills and water safety are necessary as this job relates to treated and untreated waters.
 
Maintains detailed computer records and organized document files for all activities as required. Basic computer skills required.
 
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.
 
Performs related duties as assigned.
