Butterfly Keeper

Beautiful butterflies will once again be fluttering throughout our Hilbert Conservatory this Spring, and part-time (20-29 hours per week) Butterfly Keepers will be needed from now through November to care for them!  The pay for this position is $9.50 per hour.

Butterfly Keepers care for the exhibit while answering questions for guests and observing guest/butterfly interactions. Strong candidates will be able to patiently provide exceptional customer service and have the ability to learn and explain butterfly behavior. Butterfly Keepers must have excellent interpersonal skills, maintain a professional demeanor, and project a professional appearance due to regular visitor contact, and special events.

Duties include:
  • Receive and inventory butterfly chrysalis shipments
  • Monitor chrysalis development
  • Feeding the butterflies, and cleaning the office and exhibit space
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Working evenings, weekends, and holidays

A bachelor degree from an accredited institution in Zoology, Biology, Animal Science, Wildlife Biology, or other life-science field is preferred. A High school degree/G.E.D. is required.
Successfully passing pre-employment testing, including drug test and criminal history check is a condition of employment.
