Learning Coach
This position is work study required - near IUPUI campus
Like a Lion is a nonprofit organization located about 15 minutes away from the IUPUI campus. Our mission is to provide academic, emotional and spiritual support to at-risk youth on the east side of Indy to kids in grades K-8. We generally support our students through an after school program and a summer camp, but we will be transitioning this year to be an e-learning support hub.
We are committed to disadvantaged youth in Indianapolis by giving them academic, emotional and spiritual support. This year we will be putting a particular emphasis on academics as many children have fallen even further behind due to Covid shut downs, as well as providing families with support via supplies, activities and information.
Learning Coach Job Duties: 8:45am-2:45pm Monday - Thursday
● Will run a “pod” of 2 to 5 students
● Assist students in their e-learning work provided by student’s school
● Communicate with students school teacher and bridge communication gap between parents and school
● Assist students with time management and staying on task
● Provide one-on-one tutoring for areas where students may be struggling
● Cultivate a sense of safety and community amongst pod
● Sanitize classroom throughout the day and at the end of each day
● Serve meals in classroom
● Lead pod in activities provided by Like a Lion
● Students range from kindergarten to 7th grade, pods will be separated by grades

○ Learning coaches will need to be able to communicate with their students effectively and be able to help explain information their teachers are trying to convey.
○ Learning coaches will need to be able to communicate with teachers, parents and other Like a Lion team members

○ Learning coaches will be managing a small classroom
○ Learning coaches will need to be able to balance time between each students
○ Learning coaches will need to be able to address behavior and arguments within their pod

○ Learning coaches will need to be able to come up with a variety of solutions concerning their students varied assignments and work loads
● Community Contributor
○ Learning coaches will need to be able to engage students and families through relating to their cultural differences
