About the Office of International Affairs:
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is a comprehensive office of international education and program development that stimulates, coordinates and serves as a focus for international activities on the IUPUI campus. We work with people and organizations on campus, in Indianapolis, and throughout the world to:
  • Develop IUPUI students into global citizens.
  • Facilitate international engagement and partnerships.
  • Recruit and enroll international students.
  • Provide transition support, expert advising and visa services for international students and scholars.
  • Oversee IUPUI’s study abroad activities.
  • Support international teaching and learning—for example, through use of the Global Crossroads videoconferencing lab.
  • Increase cross-cultural understanding through events and programs, including the International House.

The Front Desk Assistant in the Office of International Affairs (OIA) provides support to the Office by responding to inquiries and providing information to visitors to the OIA.

• Provide information to visitors to OIA regarding international admissions, international services and other topics as well as general information about IUPUI. Topics the employee will be trained on and required to relay information about are questions about the university, the application process, housing options, placement testing, orientation, and the full range of concerns to international students. Greet and escort visitors who have scheduled appointments to the appropriate office location.
• Respond to email inquiries sent to OIA’s main email account. Respond to inquiries or forward the message to the appropriate person in the office.
• Answer telephone calls made to OIA’s main published number. Respond to inquiries, take a message or forward the call to the appropriate person in the office.
• Open, date-stamp and distribute incoming mail.
• Process credit card payments following office and University procedure.

Skills developed as connected to the Profiles of Undergraduate Education:
Communicator – Students will learn how to be better communicators by building relationships with peers and fellow students. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting other students in their job search.
Problem Solver – Students will collaborate with peers and professionals across campus to provide better learning opportunities for students. Students will gain analytical skills by evaluating current procedures and determining effectiveness through the use of data and research.
Community Contributor – Students will gain knowledge about other cultures through interacting with members of the community. This position will provide students with skills to help communicate with others how our choices impact our community.

Qualifications
Skill in communicating effectively in person, via phone and email with people from varying cultures and backgrounds.
Working knowledge of MS Office, especially MS Outlook.
Able to use computer, copier, multi-line telephone, fax and occasionally lift boxes.

Need to enjoy working with people in a customer service setting.
